NEW BOURBON RECORDS

This label was probably another of Bourbon's own ventures, recorded in Hollywood. Among the songs are tune from "Catherine was Great" featuring Bourbon's impression of Mae West, and several on which he is accompanied by Jack Burke; both of these facts support a mid to late-1940's date. ("Catherine was Great" closed in January 1945 and Bourbon was back in Hollywood in his "This Is It" revue with Jack Burke in December of that year.)

All known issues are of new recordings by Bourbon, with the rare and unusual exception noted wherein Bourbon has a dialogue with one Bill Barclay. Numbers are in the 100-113 range, with several duplications, and a single 201 reported. Labels are black with silver print There appear to be two sets, both named "Hilarity from Hollywood."

"Hilarity from Hollywood", first issue: This three record set has, in the runoff, written matrix numbers in the A-5896 to A-5903 range, along with a stamped series/take designation, e.g. 1T2, which I take to mean 1st recording, 2nd take. The labels themselves are in the 100-103 range.

Strong , Solid and Sensational (New Bourbon Records 101 B) [A-5896/1T2]

"Hilarity from Hollywood", second issue: This second three record set appears, with the sole exception of "Strong , Solid and Sensational" to represent a second series of recordings, all with BBB-B- prefixes, followed by the label number. "Bourbon to the Cleaners", above, appears to be from this session.

In addition to the album set, there were also a series of singles on the New Bourbon label. The singles were apparently numbered starting with 100, resulting in some duplicate numbering with the set.

Mrs. Tom Maynard's Chickens (New Bourbon Records 100 A) [RB-100-B-R]
Mrs. Tom Maynard's Dogs (New Bourbon Records 100 B) [RB-100-A]
With Jack Burke at the piano, Hollywood. Although credited to "Bill Barclay", the second voice on this disc is unquestionably Bourbon's. This is the only known recording of him a dialogue. He plays (ahem) straight man to Barclay's dottering old woman on both sides, first as a railway ticketer and then as a posh film star. According to Bourbon's unpublished biography, Barclay was O.B. Barclay from Pine Bluff AR, a singer of Bourbon's acquaintance. So skilled was Barclay at mimicking an old woman, that Bourbon encouraged his to play prank phone calls to his Hollywood pals. It seems that the B side of this disc is a recreation of a joke played on Lupe Velez
Gentleman's Gentleman (New Bourbon Records 101 A)
The Rehearsal (New Bourbon Records 101 B)
-- with Jack Burke at the piano, Hollywood.

Irma's Week End, Part 1 (New Bourbon Records 102 A)
Irma's Week End, Part 2 (New Bourbon Records 102 B)

While there may be more in this series, at least one disc is reported in the 200 range:
I Had a Piece (New Bourbon Records 201 A)
We've Got to Have a Union (New Bourbon Records 201 B)
